Twelve-year-old Lena comes from a long line of Haitian Mambos, but since her father's death, she wants nothing to do with the spirits her family serves. When people in her village begin acting strangely—blank eyes, stiff movements, zombie-stiff—Lena must uncover what's controlling them and decide whether to ask the gods for help before it's too late.
